Cobb County Board of Commissioners have approved the improved development of The Avenue East Cobb. While construction is set to begin next month, you may have already noticed some changes.
The summer concert series and new stage near Banana Republic are just the beginning of the plans North American Properties (NAP) has for this shopping area. The developers say they want to create more of a “downtown feel” at The Avenue. The reimagining of the area includes new shops, more green space, an optional valet service and some new restaurants. NAP was also involved in the redevelopment of Atlantic Station and Colony Square in Midtown, Atlanta.
They are also adding new events and activities. This includes the stage that will be used for both concerts and acts from the Punchline Comedy Club. They are also encouraging shops and restaurants to host events, such as barre3’s outdoor fitness classes and Olea Oliva’s cooking workshops. There is even a local cornhole league that plays at The Avenue. And, in addition to other longstanding holiday themed events, they will be adding new ones such as the Menorah Lighting Event, which began last year.
There are a few new retailers that are expected to sign on with the redevelopment. There will also be a few more “chef-driven” restaurants. And in addition to the reconstruction, they have also rebranded with a new “Avenue” logo.
Construction is scheduled to begin in August. The developers have been meeting with local residents from the East Hampton subdivision, just to make sure that the closest residents are on board with the changes. For example, the stage was originally going to be in a more centralized location, but after a concert, there were noise complaints from the local residents. So, the management decided to move the stage to its current location.
We are excited to see what the new Avenue East Cobb will be like!
