East Cobb & Athletic Awards
In the words of the great Rodgers Hornsby:
“People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
It’s that special time of year again. It’s when the crack of the bat and the ball pounding a leather mitt indicate the first sounds of spring. East Cobb looks forward to another special year following the 2016 season where the Walton Raiders were crowned the AAAAAA Georgia State Champions over their in town rivals, Pope.
The Walton Raiders came into the season as a pre-season number one by many publications but have started out the season with a rocky 1-2 start. They look to gain some momentum as they begin a string of home games starting out with North Cobb for a tournament game Saturday Feb 18th at 12:00pm. Baseball America gives them a number 8 national ranking.
The Pope Greyhounds are hoping to rebound after a heartbreaking defeat to Walton for the state title in 2016. They start their season off against Union Grove, a non-conference opponent, Friday Feb 17th at 5:55 pm. They come into the season ranked 36th in the country.
We look forward to what is going to be an exciting 2017 season for all of our East Cobb baseball teams.

In other sporting news we would like to recognize some of East Cobb’s top football players from the 2016 season.
Derrik Allen from Lassiter High School received top honors and was awarded Cobb County’s defensive back of the year for the 2016 season. This talented back is a 4 star recruit and is currently ranked as the number 5 safety in the country according to 247Sports. Out of his many offers he is currently committed to Notre Dame.
We would also like to congratulate Tyriq Hardimon and Kyle Syvarth from Lassiter, who were named to the all county defensive teams. We wish Tyriq the best as he goes on to play for the Wake Forrest Demon Deacons next season.
Solon Page III, the talented linebacker out of Kell High School was named first team All State and will be putting on the orange and white for the Tennessee Volunteers next season.
